As I mentioned last week, I’m currently reading Ron Ritchhart’s ‘Creating Cultures of Thinking’. We're nearing the end of year exams here in Melbourne, and as I reflect upon the systems that I’ve put in place to help scaffold students’ revision, Ron’s book has also prompted me to think about the culture that I’ve set up. I'm asking myself ‘to what extent have I placed an emphasis on learning in my classroom, and to what extent do my student feel like the goal is to ‘do work' rather than to actually learn?' Interesting questions, and likely the topic of a future blog post…
Oh, also, this week I found out where the word ‘blog' comes from, ‘world wide web log'. Fun fact!
T1 this week is is a helpful (and aesthetically pleasing) way of categorising Rosenshine's principles of instruction.
T2 I very much enjoyed reading this morning. About 1 minute to read, particularly through the ‘what worked' reflections from Ben Newmark.
T3 is a handy model of CLT, shared by Adam Boxer (Auto-correct changed it to ‘VLF' for some reason, which apparently stands for ‘very low frequency').
T4 is a plug for the Teachers' Education Review. A fantastic podcast that I've contributed to a couple of times. In this ep I interviewed a few of the speakers at the ACEL National conference. I was particularly inspired by the inspiring story of Principal Gail Major turning around Scoresby Secondary College.
T5 is Adam Boxer, again, offering an interesting take on rewards and awards.
T6 and T7 may be of interest too.
Enjoy : )

Reflections of an experienced teacher. Things that have worked, via @bennewmark
Nice to see reflections from an experienced teacher. Not saying I'm not going to do some of the things in the 'haven't worked' list. But there's a lot of great tips in the 'have worked' list! https://t.co/7bOqlRRmc6 via @bennewmark

‘Praise those misbehaving so that they live up to the reputation', or should we? via @adamboxer1
"Rotten Rewards". I've been partial to this narrative before. Praise those misbehaving so that they live up to the reputation. It's interesting to hear the same story from a different perspective. https://t.co/Z66Gpww30I via @adamboxer1
