David (Mork) Morkunas until very recently was a Learning Specialist at a primary school in Victoria. He is a teacher and consultant with many years of experience and is well known across Australia for his presentations on primary mathematics teaching and, in particular, the power of daily reviews. Mork has a long and rich history of developing high quality teaching resources and lesson plans, first at Bentleigh West Primary School, and more recently at Brandon Park Primary school. Mork joined the Explicit Mathematics Program as its primary lesson writer in 2023 and has taken the lead on all lessons since joining. When he isn’t teaching, Mork works with schools around Australia to improve mathematics instruction. And, after a lifetime of searching, he has recently finally found his athletic calling and is now getting right into disk golf, aka frisbee golf.
In this episode, Mork and I take a deep dive into what makes a high quality mathematics lesson, and what it takes to write one!
