Today we’re speaking with Aaron Peeters. Aaron is a teacher and researcher working on a fascinating question that has puzzled teachers for generations! In his time Aaron has lived and taught in a variety of exciting locations across the world, from Ghana, to the Aussie outback, to his current place of settlement, New Zealand. He’s always been motivated by tough education challenges because he’s driven by a desire to offer help where help is needed, but also because aaron recognise that true professional growth happens when we step outdsie of our comfort zones. Aaron was first mentioned in the ERRR back in episode 28 with Viviane Robinson when Viviane spoke of Aarons fascinating research into what it is that stops students from seeking help when needed, and I knew from the outset that I just had to have Aaron onto the show. And a big thanks to long time ERRR supporter George Lilley for his reminder to get in touch with Aaron now that he’s nearing the end of his PhD research into this topic.

This discussion with Aaron is a really powerful one. I just love the ERRR episode in which our guest provides us with a new way to see the world, new mental models with which to interpret our everyday realities in the classroom, and new terminology that we can use to describe our everyday experiences. This episode takes on an incredibly important topic, and one I’ve been wrestling with my whole career. I hope that you enjoy our discussion on Why students don’t ask for help, even when they need it, and what we can do about it!)
