This episode we’re speaking with Alex Evans. Alex is Deputy Headteacher at St Luke’s Church of England School in Exeter, where he has led the school’s coaching programme since 2019. This programme has played a key role in transforming the school, leading to significant improvements in student progress and overall standards. Under Alex’s leadership, the coaching programme has gained national recognition. With 13 years of experience as a teacher, Alex will take up his first headship at Sidmouth College later this year.
I have had the absolute pleasure of visiting St Luke’s twice. These two visits were two-years apart, and each time I had the privilege of hearing Alex share the story of a true transformation in culture, instruction, and student results. When I recently heard that Alex would soon be leaving St Luke’s to take up his first role as Principal, I knew that I must have him on the podcast to capture the phenomenal St Luke’s transformation story.
The thing that jumps out to me most about Alex’s narrative is the clarity with which he’s able to articulate the challenges faced, and the solutions systematically found, within this change journey. The systematic approach that Alex describes in this podcast will be incredibly helpful to many teachers and school leaders who are keen to take an equally systematic approach to improving results in their context. I’m sure you’re going to love this Pod, and it’s one that I’ll be listening to again and again!
