In this episode I speak with Doug Lemov. Doug leads the Teach Like a Champion team for Uncommon Schools, a collection of urban public schools that aims to close the achievement gap and prepare students from low-income communities to graduate from college. Doug is an immensely impactful and influential educator and the author of several books including Practice Perfect, Reading Reconsidered, Teaching in the Online Classroom, Teach Like a Champion, and Teach Like a Champion 2.0, the main topic of today’s conversation.

I was immensely excited to have Doug on the podcast because his ideas and writing have been very influential on me and have helped me to be much more effective in the classroom. I also frequently refer to the techniques outlined in Teach Like a Champion when supporting other teachers to improve, and find them to be some of the most effective investments that teachers can make in their instructional approach.

In this episode of the ERRR podcast Doug and I speak in detail about a vast collection of the most effective strategies from the teach like a champion collection, as well as exploring some of the criticisms that the TTLAC approach has come under, and the exciting projects on the horizon for Doug and his team. Above all, this is a super practical episode of the ERRR podcast and I’m confident that any teacher who listens will leave with ideas of ways that they can improve their classroom instruction tomorrow.
