Dr. Naomi Fisher is a clinical psychologist and mother of two self- directed learners. She has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in Developmental Cognitive Psychology, focusing on autism. She combines years of hands-on experience of self-directed education with an in-depth knowledge of how humans develop as well as the opportunities and stresses that they encounter throughout life, and how they often cope with them.
Today we’re discussing Naomi’s new book, Changing Our Minds: How children can take control of their own learning. It’s an absolutely fascinating conversation in which we discuss such issues as the circular reasoning of diagnoses within psychology, what supports, and what compromises, intrinsic motivation, and, most importantly, what Naomi has seen happen when young people are given complete control over their own learning. For me it was an absolutely fascinating discussion. I hope you really enjoy it too!
